Reprogramming Garage Door Openers

If you have recently replaced your garage door opener, if you have moved into a new house, or perhaps a neighbour has purchased a new garage door opener, you might find yourself in need of reprogramming your garage door remote. Sometimes garage door remotes can operate on the same frequency which can result in your neighbour opening your garage door by accident. This can result in your house being wide open for burglars or other unwanted people if your garage door is opened while you are not home. To avoid these problems, it is recommended that you reprogram your garage door opener.

Most Nashville TN garage door openers will have a button labelled either “Learn” or “Learn Code”. This will be located on the main unit of your garage door opener, either on the side or the bottom of the unit. Press the learn button and release it. Depending on your garage door opener there might be an indicator of the button being pressed. One example is that a light might turn on, or the garage door opener might “beep”. Once you have heard the beep or have seen the light indicating that the learn button has been successfully pressed, press the button on your garage door opener remote that you wish to use to open and close your garage door with. Many garage door opener remotes will only have one button, but some will have multiple buttons that you can choose from.

Once you have pressed the button on your garage door opener remote, you should hear a beep or see the light go out on the garage door opener. If this happens before you have pressed the button on the remote, then you might need to press the learn button again and press the button on your garage door opener sooner.
